Extra info about the book: Breda Folktales

Breda Folktales Stories

THIS IS THE OVERVIEW OF THE PROCESS OF THE BOOK OF BRADA FOLK STORIES.

General information about book illustrations can be found here.

This year, I made 22 illustrations for the fairytale-like book of Bredase folktales, including the book cover. The nice thing is that the book tells 16 different old stories from the beautiful Nassau city of Breda. As an illustrator, it is of course an honor to be able to illustrate so many different historical places in the city of Breda. The book is offset printed on Munken paper. Typography in gold foil on the cover, spine and back and a line illustration of the Breda skyline in Spot-uv on the inside. Below you can see a preview of the book, information about the prints and the process.

DRAWING PROCESS OF THE BOOK:

A whole process preceded the making of drawings for the book. The photos below of the book illustrations I made during the past months while drawing.

Breda Folktales in the Media:

In the radio broadcast 'Border Sounds' on December 20, 2020 (11:00-12:00), the writer Naomi Janssen and I were guests for an hour.

We will of course tell you about the book Bredase Volks Stories, but I also got questions about my background as an illustrator, who I work for and how I experience that. What a fun experience!

The broadcast can be heard below or: CLICK HERE

(It is in Dutch. So if you don't speak it and you are curious how that sounds..)

Reaction of King Willem-Alexander to the book:

The book contains many illustrations that have to do with the Nassau.  Such as the illustration of Hendrik III and Mencia de Mendoza, Dillenburg Castle, Breda Castle and the cover drawn in Nassau blue. That is why I sent a book to King Willem-Alexander who is also Baron van Breda. We received a very nice response.

You can read it here in the Newspaper: BN de Stem .CLICK HERE

MOVIES of the drawing:

These are behind-the-scenes illustrations. The first video is of course speed up. But it does show how many different lines and hatches the book illustrations consist of. The second video is the creation of the book cover. And the third movie is an overview of the book illustrations before they were scanned.

HIGH QUALITY FINE ART GLICEE PRINTS:

Because there is a lot of demand for art prints of the book illustrations, I have made 6 illustrations from the book into a High quality fine art giclee print. Because the original illustrations are drawn on a large scale (A3 and A2), this High quality fine art giclee print is printed in full size (larger than in the book) and looks great on the wall. Some are limited and signed.

You can find these High quality fine art giclee prints here or here
